God Bless America!

Hello. And welcome to Scott-Montgomery.com, my personal Web site. I'm a retired soldier and current Army civilian employee, continuing to soldier on in the Washington, DC area. I retired from the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer Five in January 2006 - with a little over 30 years of active duty service - and I'm continuing to contribute as an Army civilian. I had a very good military career and I'm looking forward to an equally rewarding civilian career. I guess you could say that I'm trying to give something back by continuing to serve our great nation as a civilian. The menu on the right contains links to everything at this site. My weekly missives are the raison d'être of the site; see the start of some recent missives below. I'm glad you stopped by and I hope you enjoy my site.
Recent News (6/27/10). Today marks my 35th anniversary of Army service. Thirty and a half of those years were on active duty; the rest have been as a civil servant. Today's a milestone in my life.

Happy Independence Day! It's a great day to stop and count our blessings as Americans. As I used to say in the Army, it's a great day to be an American ... just like every other day! We had an excellent worship service at church this morning, the highlight of which - in my humble opinion - was the recitation of Carman's God in America Again by a member who excels at that sort of thing. That is one powerful message. Please watch it before you watch America The Beautiful, which we sang in church today. The words of that song are wonderful. While Carman's message is a clarion call, we still live in a great country. I thank God I was born an American. May God continue to bless the USA! [more]

Memorial Day Missive. Memorial Day greetings, faithful missive subscribers! It's been exactly 30 days since my last report, so you'd think I'd have a fair amount to tell you. We'll just see about that. It's Monday afternoon here in central Maryland, and the weather is hot and sunny. Not my kind of weather, but I can tolerate it. I should start with happy birthday wishes to Uncle Monte (Dad's twin), who turned 75 this past week. I didn't send a card (yet), but I was thinking about both Uncle Monte and Dad on their birthday. Further on the subject of Montgomery ancestry, here's a special (and important) announcement for all Montgomerys: [more]

May Day Missive. I'm doing my best to keep my promise of a monthly missive. Here's my May entry. May Day will always be "special" for me because - as I recall - it was Uncle Martin's birthday. And Uncle Martin was a great uncle. He sold us his house in the village, after all, and Shelly still lives there. He was a very generous man and he showed us some of that generosity when he sold us the house. Since I probly won't be speaking with you until early June, I want to wish all the mothers in my vast reading audience a very Happy Mother's Day! It just so happens that my youngest granddaughter, Alexa Jean, turns one on Mother's Day too! What a great Mother's Day "gift" for Jordan! Happy birthday, Lexi! One week from tomorrow is the big day. He is risen! He is risen, indeed. Happy Easter everybody. It's been over a month since I last wrote. Life rolls merrily and quickly along. I'm lucky to have time to write a monthly missive. More on that below. Meanwhile, today is also an important day because it's Val's birthday. Isn't that something? That her big day falls on Easter this year? Aye, 'tis. Happy birthday to my Frau. (Here's a picture of Val in church this morning.) The beginning of April is a big birthday period in my corner of the world. Mom's birthday falls on 4/1; Val's on 4/4; Jordan's on 4/11. Happy birthday, one and all. [more]

A break in the weather. We had sort of a wind storm towards the end of last week, but no snow to speak of. Again, despite very high winds, we did not lose power or Internet. I'm thankful for that. Our temperatures have warmed up: into the 40s today - maybe as high as 50° tomorrow - so all our snow is melting right away. I say good riddance. Bring on spring! There's a chance for some more winter weather around the middle of this coming week, but it can't last because our highs are now in the 40s. This could be my kind of weather. In fact, it plainly is my kind of weather. I'm enjoying it. To prove that spring is just around the corner, Daylight Saving Time begins two weeks from today. That's the weekend we lose an hour ... just what I need, less time on a weekend. [more]
