God Bless America!

Hello. And welcome to Scott-Montgomery.com, my personal Web site. I'm a retired soldier and current Army civilian employee, continuing to soldier on in the Washington, DC area. I retired from the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer Five in January 2006 - with a little over 30 years of active duty service - and I'm continuing to contribute as an Army civilian. I had a very good military career and I'm looking forward to an equally rewarding civilian career. I guess you could say that I'm trying to give something back by continuing to serve our great nation as a civilian. The menu on the right contains links to everything at this site. My missives are the raison d'être of the site; see the start of some recent missives below. I'm glad you stopped by and I hope you enjoy my site.
Recent News (6/15/11). Happy Anniversary to Valarie and me!! Five years today.

Happy Easter! Another long wait between missives. I know you people likely think I'm petering out on the missive front, but that's not it at all. I'm actually happiest when I'm writing missives weekly, but my current work/commuting schedule just plain does not allow me the freedom to do that. Oh, sure, I could spend every waking moment on it, but I'm not about to. I guess these less frequent missives will have to suffice. So, on with the show! Happy Easter, everyone! I've had a pretty good week. Took me a day off on Friday, just to catch my breath, as it were. Also helped out with sound at our church's "Seder Meal" service Friday evening. I had no clue about what a seder meal involves. Participating was an educational experience. And, there was horseradish in the mix, so that was good. I guess horseradish is part of the deal, and was back in Jesus's day (bitter herb). Isn't it interesting that I grew up eating horseradish at Easter? And that's from a Jewish tradition. The horseradish at church was okay, but it wasn't super strong. Anyhow, next up on the church sound calendar is Sunday morning and three Easter services. I'll be arriving early Sunday morning and putting the finishing touches on the set-up. I'm hoping to leave after the second service. In other words, NOT stay for the third service. [more]

Happy New Year. It's been four months since my last missive, and that's essentially unacceptable. I have a good excuse, which I'm not going to discuss. Those of you who know me well (mostly family, but some friends as well) know the whys and wherefores of it all. Suffice to say, it has been an incredibly stressful four months. But, alas, that's behind me now and I'm ready to roll into the new year. May 2012 be a great year for us all!! [more]

Labor Day Greetings. It's been two months, almost to the day, since my last report, and that should mean that I have plenty to say. The highlights were just a coupla weeks ago: an earthquake on 8/23 and then a hurricane coming through around 8/27. We made it through the hurricane a lot better than most. God smiled upon us, I guess. Over half the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company customers in our county lost power, but we did not. We've been lucky on the power front for the entire five years we've lived in this house. Guess it's a good neighborhood. Brother Steve did not share our luck: he lost power for about five days. Happy Independence Day! While every day is a great day to be an American, today is extra special. We celebrate the birth of our great nation. Our own celebration of the big day will include some travel and possibly a picnic. Oh, and maybe some fireworks. Ya never never know. I hope your 4th is a great one! [more]

Memorial Day Missive. Memorial Day greetings to you. I'm starting this report on Saturday morning (late Saturday morning) and hoping to finish it sometime on Monday. I'm doing laundry, listening to NPR. (Saturday lineup includes Car Talk, Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me, and This American Life. And those are some excellent shows.) This morning I saw a video on Facebook about putting flags in at Arlington National Cemetery. What a great tradition. I've been part of that tradition -- in 1978 and 1979, whilst assigned to the Old Guard (the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment), I put some of those flags in. I'm not sure if you need to be on Facebook to see the video. Here 'tis, either way. So, "Happy" Memorial Day to you and yours from me and mine. Please stop and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in past wars - and who are still giving their all in Iraq and Afghanistan - for our great nation. God bless America. [more]
