God Bless America!
Hello. And welcome to Scott-Montgomery.com, my personal Web site. I'm a retired soldier and current Army civilian employee, continuing to soldier on in the Washington, DC area. I retired from the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer Five in January 2006 - with a little over 30 years of active duty service - and I'm continuing to contribute as an Army civilian. I had a very good military career and I'm looking forward to an equally rewarding civilian career. I guess you could say that I'm trying to give something back by continuing to serve our great nation as a civilian. The menu on the right contains links to everything at this site. My missives are the raison d'être of the site; see the start of some recent missives below. I'm glad you stopped by and I hope you enjoy my site.
Recent News (5/26/14). Memorial Day Greetings. The beat goes on. In one month I will have served our great Army for 39 years; 30.5 active and 8.5 as a civil servant. Next year, 2015 - Lord willing and the creek don't rise - will mark 40 years.

Memorial Day Greetings. I trust this report finds my many missive fans well. Again, I have no excuse for the delay in writing. It's probably a simple matter of priorities. This being a long weekend, I thought I would attempt to punch out a missive. This weekend we remember the many military folks who have given their lives to keep our country free. They are the real proof that freedom isn't free. [more]

Merry Christmas! I have no good excuse for the lack of missives over the past six months. I'll tell you why I say that in a minute (it's GOOD NEWS!!!). I wish you and yours a very merry Christmas! Of course, by the time many of you read this, it will be Boxing Day, so Happy Boxing Day to you and yours. We had a nice Christmas Eve at church and then at Golden Corral. Can't beat that, what? We had a nice time, and then we came back home for a little family time with Val, me, and Val's kids. [more]

Independence Day (Weekend) Greetings. Welcome to my weekly ... monthly ... quarterly ... semi-annual missive. I'm slackin' over here, and I have no other excuse than I'm working hard and I just don't have the time or energy to do better. Nevertheless, happy Independence Day (!) and here's my semi-annual update. [more]

Greetings and salutations, SWM faithful. I hope your 2013 is off to a good start. Mine is. I did not stay up to ring in the new year last night, and I slept in until 0830 this morning, so I'm rarin' to go in this new year. I got my new year off to a traditional start with a quick jaunt across the street to 7-Eleven and Dunkin' Donuts for a Diet Coke and a chocolate glazed donut. There's nothing quite like that combination to start your day. [more]

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm a little slow on the switch for Thanksgiving Day greetings, but we're still in a festive Thanksgiving mood, so it works. We had a nice Thanksgiving this year. Val stepped out to Boston Market and bought a ready-made meal. That, in my humble opinion, is the only way to do this thing. We're not big food people anyhow (gourmands, as it were), and the ready-made meals save all kinds of time and hard work. On top of that, our kitchen is too darned small for a big production. So, we had Boston Market for our Thanksgiving dinner, and I gotta say - on top of those other pluses - it was right tasty. Steve drove up for the occasion; he arrived early Thursday afternoon and departed late Friday morning. It was nice to visit with the Fagnolia Blossom. We even played a bit of cribbage ... I put on a clinic for him, in that out of the six or eight games we played, I skunked (almost double skunked) him twice. At work we also had a Thanksgiving lunch this week. And I mean right at work. Because we're so busy and such conscientious civil servants, the way they do it in our directorate is they have the lunch catered (each person paid $15 for the meal), and then we minimize the time away from our desks and the time we spend keeping the world safe for democracy. An especially nice touch was that they had all the big wigs (senior military officers in the directorate) serving the food. That was very nice. A one-star general served me my stuffing. Bet you can't say that, eh? [more]

Labor Day Greetings. It's been a little over three months since I last wrote. Wow, that's quite a while. And pretty bad. I'd blame it on my daily grind, which is, indeed, grinding me down, but that would be a weak excuse. So, let's just get on with the show! [more]
